One of the highlights of this academic year for most junior and senior high school students of
Makati Hope Christian School (MHCS) is ironically the return of Sportsfest.
Nearly three years after the start of lockdowns and travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MHCS brought back Sportsfest, a taste of Intramurals, as part of its Foundation Week Celebration last February 13-17, 2023.
The Sportsfest was a two-day event in which students, teachers, and personnel partake in friendly competition in various sporting events, namely, badminton, basketball, chess, table tennis, or volleyball, for achievement and enjoyment. It was an opportunity to nurture and showcase their skills in the field of sports.
Sportsfest strived to foster the significance of exercise, fitness, and physical health. It also instilled the value of camaraderie by building deeper and stronger bonds within the school community, sportsmanship by acknowledging defeat but bouncing back stronger, and teamwork by cooperating together to attain a common goal which molds students into better individuals.
Those two days have been nothing but an exhibition of intense and tight competition, coupled with salubrious cheering and occasional jeering from opposing batches. Being part of
the audience, one could sense the intensity of the players and their drive to win. Athletic movement throughout the court, whistles piercing the air, and applauses filling the gymnasium were pieces of evidence of the heightened school spirit, leading to the event’s success.
Highlights included the Batch Parade, Torch Lighting, Oath of Sportsmanship, and most notably, the matches. Exhibition games were also held between the faculty and varsity in basketball as well as the Grade 12 and varsity in volleyball. In the end, everyone demonstrated
fairness, rapport, and team synergy as medals were awarded to the champions.
Some students who were winners of their respective sports were willing to share their Sportsfest experiences: “Sportsfest was memorable for me because it was my first time
competing in the games. Despite the fact that I didn’t get much playing time during the
games, I have no regrets about being a part of it. I’m proud to have been a part of a championship-winning squad. I’m hoping that there will be more games available in the future so that I can try out various sports. The booths and food vendors contributed to the excitement of the event, and the mood of school enthusiasm was fantastic. I am extremely happy with everyone who took part and helped make Sportsfest a success,” said by an
anonymous Grade 6 who was part of the basketball.
Truly an unforgettable event not only because of the good memories of fun and play but also the importance of proper conduct in friendly competitions. Kudos to all the students who
participated! Looking forward to a more compelling and noteworthy Sportsfest (or Intramurals) in the succeeding school year.
