Tigers Growl at Teenpreneur Challenge

Updated: Nov 2

We are living in an age where a seven year-old can have a net worth of $22 million by reviewing toys on YouTube.

Today’s youth isn’t that different from their predecessors, except for the fact that in 2014, 4 out of 10 students from Grades 5 to 12 have already started their own businesses (Gallup-Hope Index, 2013).

Harvard Business Review (2015) wrote that teenagers of today are more entrepreneurial due to “a tough economy, increasingly competitive college market, expanding networks and shifts in technology” that has created a culture of innovators among Generation Z. This generation inspired collectives such as The Teenpreneur Challenge to take shape.

Capturing major awards, Makati Hope Christian School and selected students from Grade 12 received the Artist’s Choice Award, People’s Choice Award and 2nd Place Sponsor’s Choice Award for the Joy Jingle Category, Sponsor’s Choice Award for the Island Souvenir T-Shirt Design and the Best in Documentation Video.

“The process of conceptualization is that we wanted a design that would show sustainable tourism without shouting out the words sustainable tourism. We wanted it to be worn by anyone,” said Angelica Tan, head designer of the team’s t-shirt design.

“One of the great things that I’ve experienced personally at Teenpreneur 2018 was the fact that I could see my students grow before my eyes. All of the activities that we did were very engaging, challenging and most of all, it made my journey as a teacher and as a facilitator so much better. These experiences are once in a lifetime in the life of these students and I’m glad that they were able to accomplish and achieve so much during this event,” said Mrs. Christelle Catalan.
