The grind never stops for the students of Makati Hope Christian School (MHCS) as they bring in the heat during the summer and bagging over 30 awards. With their burning passion, these students have exhibited the core values of the school through their excellence and resilience as they continuously grow their God-given talents.
On April 17, 2022, the team garnered two silvers, two bronzes, and two honorable mentions namely Wynona Sia, Sean Conbankiat, Taeyang Jang, Heegyeong Kim, Juan Viernes, Danaielle Magtoto respectively at the Singapore and Asian Math Olympiad.
In the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad 2022 Heat Round, the MHCS students brought home seven awards – winning one gold, five silvers, and two merits in their respective grade levels. Bryce Calacday, Heegyeong Kim, Jasmine Kimberly Ngo, Jerome Tan, Julliene Ngo, Sean Cobankiat, Cyanxiel Tavares, together with Eldridge Tan, and Jailene Ngo have been awarded sequentially on May 20, 2022.
Sweeping eight medals at the World Mathematics Invitational on June 18, 2022, the MHCS team was victorious with Dean Yu and Wynona Sia winning Gold. Julliene Ngo, Sean Cobankiat, and Liwen Zhu were awarded silver. While Jerome Tan, Lindsay Penson, and Danaielle Magtoto received bronze.
Math isn’t all there is, in other subjects such as Science, Roxburgh Yu was awarded bronze along with the participation of Cyanxiel Tavares, and Solmin Jang in the Vanda International Science Competition 2022 held on June 18, 2022.
Additionally, Dean Alistair received a bronze award on June 4, 2022 at the Design Thinking with Robotics and Computational Thinking International Competition (Dr CT 2022).
The school strives to not only be academically excellent but to showcase its students’ skills in different fields as well. Acing her top performance, ballet performer Tiffany Ong took the international stage placing 1st in the Rising Classical Division and 2nd in the Rising Contemporary Division during the Grand Prix Finals Dance Open America on June 6, 2022. Additionally, she joined the Primavera Category as a foreign candidate at the Premio MAB on June 12, 2022.
Last but not least, the following students were able to display their skills in representing different countries as assigned delegates to debate and tackle relevant issues.
Alexander Reporte, John Yu, and Lynne Go were all awarded verbal commendations at the Tokyo International University Model United Nations (MUN) on June 10-12, 2022.
Moreover, during the Global Youth Development MUN on July 3, 2022, three awards were given. In their respective committees, Tara Mohammad received the best position paper award, Faith Ongaria was awarded the best opening speech, while Alexander Reporte was commended as the best speaker.
