The government expects 146 to 148 million coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine doses from seven firms by the end of 2021, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said in a meeting with President Duterte and other government officials.
So far, the country has secured a supply of 106 to 108 million doses.
“On our negotiations, we have already signed the term sheet of five. We have already locked in the supply of 106 to 108 million doses including po yung sa single dose,” said Galvez.
According to him, 70 million Filipinos can be vaccinated by the end of the year if it follows the plan.
He did not name the five companies due to non-disclosure agreements.
“I can assure you ang mga vaccine pong iyon is one of the most sought vaccine at maganda ang naging result ng mga vaccine na iyon. Isa ito sa top 3 vaccines sa market ngayon,” he said.
Sinovac
Around 50,000 CoronaVac doses from China’s Sinovac Bio- tech will arrive by this month.
Two shots per person will cost P3,630, which is second-most expensive. It can be placed in an ordinary refrigerator that is 2-8 degrees Celsius.
The vaccine relies on antigens from killed viruses to trigger the immune system to fight off the Covid-19 causing virus.
Pfizer
The Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access Facility (COVAX), an operation led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to give vaccines to countries in need, will also provide 5.6 million doses within the year’s first quarter.
For the first batch, the United States of America’s Pfizer-BioN-Tech vaccine will send 117,000 doses by mid-February.
This vaccine costs P2,379 for two doses, with a storage temperature of -70 degrees Celsius.
Pfizer’s vaccine uses mRNAs to attack SARS-CoV-2, a different kind of coronavirus.
