Candle Pen Editor-in-Chief takes double valedictorian awards

Candle Pen’s former editor-in-chief for social media, Eunso Im is the queen among the kings as she graduated as the Grade 12 Kings’ English and Chinese valedictorian for the school year 2021-2022. This makes Eunso the third consecutive valedictorian who was an editor for Candle Pen. The graduation took place in the Makati Hope Christian School’s sixth-floor gym, making it the first time MHCS held a graduation ceremony since the start of the pandemic.

In her sentimental graduation speech, she looked back on her to-do list and how every box ticked signified perseverance. “Each of these individual boxes may seem relatively insignificant in the sea of 921 others, but I hope that we can let the diplomas we receive today serve as a physical reminder that these boxes can always accumulate into something much greater, like our graduation.”

She shouted out those who helped fulfill these tasks, with whom she and her fellow batchmates share these milestones with.

She also recalled the unpredictable events that she and her batchmates had to deal with and eventually overcame. “However, if there’s a batch that knows what it feels like to have your checklist changed overnight, it would certainly be us. Missing our high school events was just the tip of the iceberg compared to the global health crisis, ever-heating climate, political tensions, and social injustices. But if we learned anything from graduating in a time that is so uniquely vulnerable, it would be to make the most out of our constantly adapting checklists even in the face of adversity and unchecked boxes,” she said.

She ended her speech with ticking off the “graduating high school” box and looked forward to seeing all the boxes to be filled in the future.
