Basco appointed HS acad head, new coordinators welcomed

Updated: Oct 30

As Makati Hope Christian School entered the new school year, the school has observed a change in its faculty.

Amid the deployment of Ms. Irish Dañas and Ms. Mary Jane Ortaleza to the United States for a teacher exchange program as well as the retirement of Mrs. Leilanie Cabual, the school has also appointed teachers in new positions.

Ms. Kristin Basco, who was previously a High School English teacher, has been newly appointed as the High School Academic Head.

When asked how she would newly introduce herself to the student body, Basco mentioned that she never thought about making it special.

“I never thought of introducing myself in any special way, even in this current position. I would just say ‘I’m Kristin Basco, and I am your Academic Head for High School this school year. Let us work together to make this school year a memorable one.’ I have always been a believer that a person’s work speaks a lot about himself/herself,” she said.

The subject coordinators will consist of both newly and previously appointed teachers.

Ms. Mary Joyce Rivera and Mr. Mervin Bueno will be leading the English and Mathematics departments respectively. Ms. Rosalina Lanuza, more commonly known as Teacher Yna, will be taking over the Social Studies department whereas Ms. Jocelyn Lagat is directing the ICT department.

Ms. Bernadeth Sigua will once again be taking over as the head coordinator of the MAPEH-TLE department. Mr. Dino Paolo Cortes will be overseeing the Science department full time.

As a parting message, Basco said a few words of encouragement towards the retiring teachers this year. Basco stated: “To the teachers on the next steps of their professional and personal journeys, may God bless your steps. The school wishes you all the best.”

In its second year of online learning, MHCS has stated that it will remain committed in its goal of producing lifelong learners through core values of harmony, excellence, integrity, resilience, and stewardship.

With all these changes, Candle Pen wishes the best of luck to all teachers, including those who retired or are working abroad this school year. Your MHCS family will be looking forward to your future experiences and accomplishments throughout the following years!
