We Win as One at Christmastime

Updated: Nov 2

We Win As One. This was the aptly-chosen theme of this year’s 30th Southeast Asian Games that served its purpose well. It was a unifying goal that directed the hearts and minds of the athletes and their countrymen. More than a slogan, it is a value that fired the human spirit throughout the duration of this biennial meet.

The overwhelming support for the athletes propelled them to great feats. The site of the flags hoisted up in the air after each grueling event has become a source of pride, a symbol of greatness, an expression of oneness.

SEA Games 2019 highlighted cooperation, working as one. Volunteers and supporters from different walks of life committed themselves to a great cause for their love of and support to their country. They responded to the challenge without inhibitions, without expectations. The strong resolve to work together amidst challenges inspired and empowered the athletes for stellar performances. Together, we can.

Cooperation through fairness and respect was one of the highlights of this multi-sport event. Regional biases and assumptions were set aside as demonstrated by the curbing of strong emotions in the intensity of the games. Winning or losing was not an end in itself. It is a process that refines the character – the challenging of deep-seated beliefs and divergent perspectives. Harmony with others starts from within.

Unity was crucial to the success of the SEA Games.

Unity is the message that Christmas brings.

The birth of Jesus Christ more than two thousand years ago is an expression of God’s great love for His people. A loving Father since the beginning of time, He made a great sacrifice to be reunited with his most valued creation - mankind. Jesus, born in a manger, was a sacrificial lamb for the redemption of man.

Jesus Christ came to Earth to unite the hearts and minds of people from different culture, race, and background. He came to offer his gift of salvation that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). This is the best gift that anyone could ever have.

With this amazing story of unifying love and forgiveness, we win and rejoice as one at Christmastime!
