Teachers’ Day 2020: Covid-19 Edition

In honor and gratitude of teachers, Makati Hope Christian School held an online Teachers’ Day event, last September 25. To commemorate this special day, the Student Council (SC) organized a week-long celebration, with social media appreciation posts and an event filled with fun games and activities.

This year’s theme, “The Light in Teaching in the Dark”, highlighted the dedication of our teachers and the significance of their role, especially during these unprecedented times.

The program started off with a prayer, followed by an inspiring Biblical message, given by the school chaplain, Pastor Christian Banzuelo. Afterward, students and teachers in the Early Childhood Department (ECD) and lower elementary levels then proceeded to play games like “Spot the Object” and “Bring Me”.

Meanwhile, during the program for higher levels, teachers and students participated in the “Amazing Race Escape Room”. After being divided into their respective breakout rooms, they were given a series of challenges to accomplish within the least possible time.

With assistance from their students, teachers worked together to decipher hidden messages, using symbols and clues from the school’s vision and mission. Additional guessing games like “I Spy” were also played.

“My competitive spirit was displayed because I really wanted my group to win a special prize. Even though we didn’t win, I enjoyed the camaraderie and fun time I had with other teachers. Thank you very much, SC officers and adviser for the fun-filled Teachers’ Day event last September 25th!” Mr. Ronald Vaguchay expressed his appreciation for the celebration.

When asked about the planning and implementation of the program, SC member, Timothy Aguinaldo said, “Unlike other events that we had, this was the shortest task to prepare because there were a lot of conflicts when making it initially. But in the end, when we executed it, we were able to learn and understand a lot about what we did.”

Teachers were also encouraged to make use of their social media platforms to post a photo with a caption sharing what they love most about teaching. Chosen winners, along with the group of teachers who won in the games earlier, received e-gift cards from the school.

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly added to the challenges faced by millions across the globe. However, even in this crisis, our teachers have truly become, as they have done so often, a bright beacon of hope in the midst of the darkness.
