Memories shared, memories made

The Makati Hope Christian School way of celebrating this year’s Foundation Week for

its 38th anniversary provided the school community with so many memories to treasure and remember.

While our Grades 5-12 enjoyed exhilarating sports and thrilling games, our younger students also had their fair share of fun. From our ECD department, the children had the whole experience from arts and crafts to minigames. Halls were lined with a multitude of decorations, which we have the teachers to thank for. We could see the students’ essence in every little corner of the hallways and classrooms. With hanging cutouts with their faces on them and their artworks pasted on the wall, it was as if memories clouded the school — old ones cherished, and new ones made.

Floor-to-ceiling decor incorporated the kids’ individuality and creativity. The walls were plastered with glitter and sequin-filled works, each one so distinct, and yet all the same,

irreplaceable. Even the hall lights were dimmed by cellophane to make the area more vibrant. The entire ECD hall was shrouded in different hues of yellows, reds, and blues. The ECD children were also able to play minigames in their respective rooms. They made art and played games, as supervised by their teachers.

On the other hand, elementary students were given more free range. While grades 2-4 were still under the supervision of their advisers, they were able to explore the game booths on the 3rd floor and the food fair on the 4th. Each class had specific time schedules for when they would be playing a booth. Students were able to participate in games and were given time to play with friends.

The 3rd floor echoed with cheers and laughter from the children. It brought out a sense of camaraderie amongst the students. It is vital that even from a young age, they are given the freedom to experience and grow, as individuals and as part of an ever-growing, nourishing community. Group skills like teamwork, intellectual skills like puzzle solving, and physical skills like agility were all practiced throughout the game booths.

With that said, not only did they experience loud, bustling games like ball games, but they

were also able to enjoy the library’s reading booth. Our students were able to finally access

the special reading corner after the years of online class. It was as if we were watching a distant memory, to the older grades. Seeing the children so pleased from reading truly was a sight to see, reigniting the fire of literature in the next generation of MHCS students.

While they may not have been playing basketball or volleyball like their achi’s and kuya’s, they were not exempt from the full force of MHCS fighting spirit. Thus, we say memories shared, and memories made. Because a memory you share with others is a memory you’ll never forget.
