Detour

In life, one thing is for sure: time runs out without us knowing it. This fact, whether we like it or not, becomes a stumbling point for us to hurry and rush through with things.

Life seems instantly like a race where we want to eliminate every roadblock. It sets our minds on default that no external factors would change for us to achieve a certain plan in mind. Somewhat like the economic term, ceteris paribus, all else left constant.

Somehow, through the course of life and its mysterious wonders, there are instances that change everything and give it a hundred-eighty degree turn. Right there and then, we are left clueless about what tomorrow will bring. We once understood how it was like to expect minor mishaps, but unfortunately not this.

However, no matter how troubling these roadblocks may be, it gives us an opportunity to detour. Detouring may be a considerable delaying factor, but above else, it is an opportunity for us to explore other ways to reach our final destination. It is an avenue that opens up our eyes to horizons that we have never seen before.

Ayn Rand, a Russian-American writer, once said that “A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.”

As the quote says, it is not always about getting ahead of others. On the contrary, it is the continuing pursuance of our spirit to achieve, stick by the most trying times and challenging our creativity that define us.

That said, let us continue to seize the carpe diem, through the mountain peaks and beneath the valleys.
